Animus Studios is looking for a graphic designer (with motion design experience) to help elevate the quality of our work. Great designers lead to better visual ideas upfront and, ultimately, better videos for our clients.
While our ideal candidate is both a great designer and an experienced animator, the priority here is design. So if getting that composition juuuust right satisfies you to your very bones, but actually making it move ain’t really your thing, that’s okay… we’d still love to hear from you.
From a style standpoint, we’re looking for someone with a punchy and sophisticated design style who can work on sleek, tightly-structured designs for tech, financial, and other corporate clients. Sometimes, this will be for entirely animated videos and often, graphics will add style to a live action (talking head) video. The key? You’re excellent at designing with video in mind.
This is where we’ll mention all that stuff about the ability to be self-driven, collaborative, open to critique, happy to communicate and organized. We’re an open team who values and respects each other.
We love supporting our state of Rhode Island and hope to have local candidates. With that said, this position can be fully remote or hybrid.
Core Responsibilities
- Collaborate on projects from start to finish. Ideation, look/art direction, storyboarding, style frames, design and assembling assets ready for animation... and, if you're good in After Effects, supporting animation and motion.
- Support ideation and art direction. Understand the client brand, brand guidelines, and creative direction for the project to pitch design concepts that achieve the project goals (and look awesome).
- Develop storyboards and assets. Assist in sketching storyboards, mocking up ideas, and, on approval, building assets ready for animation. When possible, assisting in motion design and animation.
- Support live-action video projects by helping to develop their visual identity, and by designing things like lower thirds, text boards, infographics, icons, logo animations.
- Create designs for Animus’s marketing materials, website, social media, and client pitch decks.
Technical Skills
- Adobe Suite, specifically Illustrator, Photoshop, and After Effects, conducting typography, color, shape, space, and texture into an artful arrangement based on the creative brief of a project.
- While this is primarily about design for video, it'd be amazing if you're proficient in After Effects. From stacking effects for that perfect aesthetic, to laying buttery-smooth keyframes.
- You love learning new tools, experimenting with new techniques, and keeping up with the ongoings of the industry.
- You maintain an awareness of evolving design trends and showcase the ability to successfully adapt and expand art directions beyond that of your own personal style.
Background
- At least 2 years of real-world experience in an agency setting or in-house with a creative team.
- At least 2 years of experience working with video-oriented deliverables.
- You have an eye-catching portfolio that shows real-world corporate/agency experience and an advanced attention to design principles, detail, and craft.
